HOW IT WORKS

HS Code classification methodology

Ontonexa is decision support: it helps you reach the right tariff branch faster, shows the evidence used, and makes uncertainty visible before you file.

From product description to tariff candidate

  1. 1Normalize the input. We accept short descriptions, product pages and catalog rows, including supported multilingual product terms.
  2. 2Extract product facts. Material, function, construction, power source, capacity and intended use become structured facts.
  3. 3Retrieve official candidates. The search layer compares the facts and tariff language against the selected country's current dataset.
  4. 4Rank and explain. We return a recommended starting point when the evidence is sufficient, alternatives when it is not, and the facts that could change the result.
  5. 5Verify before filing. Customs classification is not binding advice. Check the official provision, origin treatment and any applicable notes or measures.

Why we ask follow-up questions

A product name can map to several tariff branches. When a missing fact could change the code, Ontonexa asks for that fact instead of presenting false precision. You can select a candidate, answer a focused question, or provide more detail in your own words.

What the score means

The confidence value is an uncalibrated retrieval signal, not a measured accuracy probability. It communicates how strongly the current product facts and tariff text align; it does not replace a customs ruling or professional review.
